It's 3:30 AM, nobody is on Live or messenger, and I’m bored but not yet tired. Thus, I’ve decided to go ahead and write a new blog entry. Since I don’t have any particularly interesting subjects to discuss at this time, I’ve decided to give the two or three of you who actually read this thing an update of what has been going on in my gaming life lately. Maybe you will relate to a story or find something amusing. Anyway, here is my random gaming update…
- I spent nearly my entire St. Patrick’s Day playing Halo 2. Andrew and Talli, in their infinite wisdom, convinced me to change my armor color to green in honor of the holiday, making it the first time that I changed my armor from steel since the game came out in November 2004. Eventually, when there were 13 or 14 of us in the room, it looked like an army of leprechauns (or an army of Bobs, though that is too frightening to even think about). I obviously took a few breaks throughout the day, but by the time I called it a night I had been online in Halo 2 for more than twelve hours. Call me a dork or whatever, but I found it to be a lot more fun than I would have had if I went out for St. Paddy’s Day. Perhaps what I found most funny was that even after playing all day I still wasn’t tired of the game, and could have kept playing if everyone else hadn’t left to go to sleep. This is in contrast to Crackdown; where as you know after my 12-hour marathon I was on the edge of insanity and wasn’t forming coherent sentences (some of you will say that I never form coherent sentences, but that’s beside the point…).

While playing a game of BTB Slayer on Containment earlier tonight I managed to be behind the wheel of an exploding Warthog twelve times. Three times I accidentally hit mines, once was due to friendly fire, and the other eight were due to hostile fire, mostly rockets. I wasn’t intentionally trying to get blown up, but when it became apparent that I could break the non-existent Warthog destruction record I actually started rooting for the other team to kill me. Keep in mind that this was a twelve-minute game, so to have 12 destroyed Warthogs on your hands is quite the accomplishment, even for an awesome driver like me. It was such a historic event that Eric actually seemed enthusiastic about jumping in the gunner position during the last few runs. Yet, somehow, after it was all over, nobody seemed that surprised that I could pull off such a feat…
- A few weeks ago during a game of Halo 2 my Warthog driving helped Bob, who was gunning, get an overkill, making him the second person who I've helped in that respect (the first being Chloe). Of course Bob, celebrating his liberation from mono, was drunk at the time and didn't even realize that he got the overkill until he looked through his stats a week or so later. Apparently, when you put together two ordinarily crappy players and have one of them be intoxicated, you form an unstoppable killing machine. Anyway, who wants to be the third person I help get an overkill?
- Although I was a little worried that the game would be rushed, considering it has only been a year since its predecessor came out, I decided to pick up GRAW 2 when it came out, and I was pleasantly surprised with how polished it was. It was a lot of fun, and I welcomed some of the minor improvements such as being able to see the cross-com in full view and occasionally having control of an additional infantry squad instead of a helicopter or armor unit. However, the game is quite short, and I completed the single player campaign on the highest difficulty in one six-hour sitting. It did not seem nearly as difficult as GRAW. Nevertheless, it is an immersive and entertaining game, and improved on the already-great original. I have yet to go into multiplayer; still waiting for Greg to get his copy so we can do some co-op.

Having had a whole bunch of fun on Worms about a decade ago, I decided to grab it from the Arcade, making it the first full XBLA title I have purchased in quite a while. Although it hasn’t held my attention like it used to, it is still an entertaining game. The challenges get quite difficult and frustrating in the higher levels (I’m currently on level 13, if that is considered ‘high’), leaving me in doubt if I’ll ever complete the single player game. Still, it can be quite fun. I tried out some multiplayer with Greg, but after several very one-sided games we agreed to a truce and decided to try and blow up the whole map. We didn’t get very far though; shooting the ground will only hold one’s attention for so long.
- I found all 500 agility orbs in Crackdown a few weeks back, and was quite proud of myself, running off to my friends to tell them of my accomplishment. However, I still have 19 hidden orbs remaining. I used a map of the city and an online guide to make sure I would get them all without difficulty (Call it cheating, but whatever. I ran aimlessly around for hours looking for agility orbs and didn’t want to repeat that again), but I somehow marked off more orbs on the map than I actually had, resulting in a very screwed up situation. Although a few weeks ago I was completely addicted to Crackdown and could barely keep my hands off the game, now I’m at the point where playing it seems almost like a chore, and if I spend more than a half-hour playing the game at a time I’m about ready to rip out my eyes. I really want to get those last 19 orbs, but right now it’s not looking good. Luckily (or perhaps unluckily for them), I have a few friends in similar situations, so at least I’m not alone.
Well, that’s my random gaming update. Maybe I’ll start to do these things somewhat regularly, but given my track record with updating this blog, don’t bet on it.
